Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. James 5:16
Sin. What an ugly thought. We don't like to talk about sin. We don't like to admit our sin. We often fail to confess our sins to God. We try to hide our sins. We certainly don't want others to know about our sins. Therefore, we suffer the consequences of our sins - separation from intimacy with God and alienation from others. David said, "When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away through my groaning all day long".1 However, James tells us that there is healing for us when we confess our sins to one another and pray for one another.
I want to confess my sin to you. God says, be holy as I am holy.2 God says, come out from among those in the world and be separate. But often, I don't and I'm not.
I want to know God in all His fullness. I want to be in an intimate relationship with God, continually abiding in His presence. I want to know and do His will every day. Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.3
Jesus said, "if anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me".4 I do want to follow Him. But, I struggle when it comes to denying myself and taking up my cross daily and following Jesus. Too often I choose fleshly comfort over spiritual closeness. I fail to discipline myself for godliness. I stay in bed instead of getting up to pray and spend time with God.
I have the desire to please God, but I don't follow it. I cant go where God is and stay where I am now. However, I want to be different. I want to be like Jesus. I want to be free from sin.
God wants all of us to be free from sin - Free from the power of sin, the guilt of sin, the weight of sin, the burden of sin, the penalty of sin and the consequences of sin. Please pray for me and with me now, that it will not be sin, but Christ that reigns in the body.
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.5
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.6
