Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God's people. Ephesians 6:18 NCV

In recent months and years, Americans have been forced to realize that there is a war going on around us. Even though we don't like to think about war, or want to be involved in it, we have been unable to avoid it.

Even though many thought it couldn't happen, our enemies demonstrated to our horror the fact that we are vulnerable to attack - especially when we think that we are not. We found that we couldn't wish it away or avoid it; the only thing we could do was face it. We had to be involved, like it or not. We had to fight the enemy.

But, praise God, we have found that we were not alone in our battle. Turning to God in earnest prayer, we have found help and victory over our enemies. In answer to many earnest prayers, we have seen victory in a short time, with the loss of a small number of lives - even though some predicted that there would be hundreds of thousands of lives lost in the war.

However, the battle is not over. The war is not an earthy one, but a spiritual one. Our enemies are not terrorists, wicked leaders or evil governments. Our real enemy is Satan. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 NASB

As Christians and as the Church, we need to realize that there is a spiritual war going on around us. Our enemy is attacking us, our families, our friends, our leaders and the Church. Many are wounded, and some have fallen under Satan's attack. Sadly, some do not even realize they are in a battle. Others seek positions of ease and comfort, in effect going AWOL from the spiritual battle. We must encourage others to join in the battle, we must resist attack, we must fight our enemy together.

Ministry is war: against the world, the flesh, and the devil; against sin, heresy, and error; against apathy and lethargy in the church. It is a spiritual battle against the kingdom of darkness, and it never ceases, never abates. It is a battle to preserve the truth, the faith once for all delivered to the saints. This is a good fight, an excellent and noble fight, worthy of our greatest efforts. There can be no compromise. - The Believer's Study Bible

A retired general made this observation in regard to the war in Iraq, "war is just a battle of will, the whole point is to convince your opponent to give up." Satan tries to convince us that we can't win, that we can't resist temptation, that we might as well give up. His tactics are lies and deceit. However, he is a defeated foe. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. Stand firm. Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 NIV

The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. 2 Cor. 10:4 Our weapons are the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God and prayer. With God's help, with the weapons He has given us, we can be victorious, we can overcome our enemy. God has given us a winning battle plan: Pray the Word.

Pray in the Spirit at all times with all kinds of prayers, asking for everything you need. To do this you must always be ready and never give up. Always pray for all God's people. Ephesians 6:18 NCV
