Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19
Are we rich? Is our church rich? God has richly blessed us individually and collectively. But are we rich toward God? In Luke Chapter 12, Jesus warns us of the danger of not being rich toward God. How can we be rich toward God? One of the most effective means of bringing about the will of God in our lives, is to pray scripture. I ask that you pray that we will be rich toward God, as a church and as individuals. Read the attached story and see if you agree that it demonstrates the attitude that would please our Lord.
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and under- standing. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:9-14
I pray that Christ will work in us and through us as we give ourselves to Him and the work He has given us to do. To Him be the glory.
